Martha Alvarez

Martha Álvarez, a renowned artist from the port of Acapulco, in the state of Guerrero, Mexico, has carved an impressive path in the world of art and psychology. Currently residing in Baja California, Martha’s artistic journey began at an early age under the tutelage of distinguished watercolorists Gustavo Alaniz and Julio Romero Campos, both esteemed students of the prestigious San Carlos Art Academy in Mexico City. Her pursuit of artistic mastery continued in Mexico City, where she studied with Consuelo Mora, a celebrated pastel artist who encouraged her to join the “Inquietudes” art group, propelling her work into the public eye.

After experiencing personal challenges, including a divorce, Martha moved to Tijuana, Baja California, with her children. There, she continued to create and showcase her art, participating in numerous competitions such as the LA Cetto Winery Art Contest, where she earned first place, as well as receiving civic recognitions, including the Outstanding Civics Award from the Baja California government. Her career took a unique turn when she pursued the study of psychology, integrating her deep understanding of art with psychological practice. Martha attained both a Master’s and a Doctoral degree in psychology and went on to become the director of the Municipal Institute Against Substance Abuse (IMCAD) in Tijuana. In this role, she applied her dual expertise in art and psychology to innovative substance abuse recovery treatments.

Martha continues to exhibit her artwork in various esteemed venues across Mexico, the United States, and Malaysia. Her art, recognized for its blend of nouveau surrealism, magical realism, and symbolic elements, captures the essence of human emotion and the depth of the subconscious mind.
